The 9^th Biennial Hellbender Symposium held in Blacksburg (June 17-20) was a huge success!! With support from the Fralin Life Science Institute, the Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, and several other contributors, Virginia Tech hosted ~90 people from academia, zoos/aquaria, NGOs, and state and federal agencies. Lab Alum Brian Todd Promoted to Full Professor at UC Davis

Dr. Brian Todd, a postdoctoral fellow in the Hopkins Lab in 2008-2009, has been promoted to the rank of Professor at the University of California Davis. Within the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology, his research focuses on providing the best available science to understand and prevent the loss of biological diversity.

Hopkins Appointed Chair for National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee to Review USGS Laboratories

William A. Hopkins, professor of wildlife in the College of Natural Resources and Environment, has been appointed chair to a committee of The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine: The Review of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Laboratories: Processes, Procedures, and Best Practices to Meet National Needs.

Hopkins will chair the committee for the duration of a 30-month analysis of all U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) laboratory facilities.
